Series 500 High-Performance DOT 3 Brake Fluid (BF3)

Series 500 DOT 3 High- Performance Brake Fluid
Series 500 High-Performance DOT 3 Brake Fluid (BF3)
AMSOIL now offers Series 500 High-Performance DOT 3 Brake Fluid. AMSOIL Brake Fluids provide superior high-temperature performance in auto/light truck, high-performance, racing and powersports applications.

Boiling Points
As the brake system heats up, brake fluids with low boiling points begin to vaporize. The brake pedal must travel further to apply the same amount of force on the brakes, causing a spongy feeling. If enough of the brake fluid vaporizes, brake system failure may occur. Brake fluid boiling points are measured on two separate scales:

  • Dry equilibrium reflux boiling point (ERBP) - the boiling point of new, freshly-opened, unused fluid.
  • Wet ERBP - the boiling point of a brake fluid after it has absorbed three percent water.

The minimum dry ERBP for DOT 3 brake fluid is no less than 205°C (401°F), and the minimum wet ERBP is 140°C (284°F). That might not seem very high, but in most brake systems the fluid in the caliper won’t reach that temperature unless the brakes are abused. It only takes four percent water contamination to bring a DOT 3 fluid’s boiling point down to the federal limit.

Boiling Point of DOT 3 Brake FluidAMSOIL Series 500 High-Performance DOT 3 Brake Fluid is formulated with the best zinc-based anti-corrosion additives and pH stabilizers. It is designed for high-temperature stability, yet flows easily at low temperatures. AMSOIL Series 500 High-Performance DOT 3 Brake Fluid's superirior additive package provides good lubrication throughout the system and can raise boiling points to more than 232°C (450°F). It keeps water in suspension, slowing its effects on the brake system. AMSOIL Brake Fluids have high boiling temperatures, ensuring maximum life and reliable braking power, even in extreme conditions. AMSOIL Series 500 High-Performance DOT 3 Brake Fluid has a dry ERBP of 274°C (525°F) and wet ERBP of 156°C (313°F). AMSOIL Series 600 DOT 4 Racing Brake Fluid has a dry ERBP of 304°C (580°F) and wet ERBP of 210°C (410°F).

Compressibility
When a fluid is non-compressible it means it won’t compress into a smaller volume when pressure is applied. In a brake system, fluid pressure is multiplied by the master cylinder and can reach more than 1,000 pounds per square inch (psi) in the lines. Like any other hydraulic fluid, brake fluid must be non-compressible at the expected pressures to transmit force from one end of the system to the other while simultaneously lubricating the pistons and rubber parts as they move through their bores. If the fluid were to compress, all braking power would be lost. AMSOIL Series 500 High-Performance DOT 3 Brake Fluid remains non-compressible, even at the highest pressures generated in automotive brake systems. AMSOIL Brake Fluid provides superior stopping ability under the most demanding conditions.

Brake Fluid Maintenance
Brake fluids fail either because they boil or because they cease to provide adequate lubrication and corrosion protection. Both reasons for failure are the result of contamination, usually by water or petroleum products.

DOT 3 and DOT 4 polyglycol ether-based brake fluids are hygroscopic, which means they absorb water easily and hold it in suspension, similar to antifreeze. In most climates, moisture seeps into the brake system continuously through the various seals and microscopic pores of the flexible brake lines. This seepage can accelerate as a vehicle ages and there’s almost no limit to how much water the fluid can absorb. By the time brake fluid has been in the system for three years, it can easily reach its wet boiling point. Because this happens gradually, most drivers won’t discover the reduced braking ability until it’s too late.

Many owner’s manuals recommend changing brake fluid every 24 months to remove moisture. Approximately half of all cars and light trucks in the U.S. over 10 years old have never had the brake fluid changed. In addition, powersports applications such as motorcycles, ATVs and UTVs require routine brake fluid changes as well.

Series 600 DOT 4 Racing Brake Fluid (BF4)

Series 600 DOT 4 Racing Brake Fluid

  • Wet ERBP - the boiling point of a brake fluid after it has absorbed three percent water.

The minimum dry ERBP for DOT 4 brake fluid is 230°C (446°F), while the minimum wet ERBP is 155°C (311°F). Their higher boiling points make DOT 4 fluids appropriate for high-performance cars and motorcycles and for vehicles used for towing or in mountainous regions.

Diesel Cold Flow Improver (ACF)

Diesel Cold Flow Improver (ACF)

AMSOIL Cold Flow Improver (ACF) has been reformulated to provide maximum cold flow capabilities in diesel fuels. The new formulation provides superior performance over the former DFF formulation, which is available while supplies last.

Cold Weather and Diesel Fuel
As the temperature drops, the wax naturally found in diesel fuel begins to form crystals. The point at which wax crystals form is known as the cloud point. These wax crystals eventually clog the fuel filter and starve the engine of fuel or prevent it from starting. While low-quality fuels may form wax crystals in temperatures as warm as 40°F (4°C), most fuels have a cloud point near 32°F (0°C).

#1 Diesel Fuel
One traditional solution to cold-weather problems in diesel engines is the use of #1 diesel fuel, which is diesel fuel diluted with kerosene. While #1 diesel fuel has an advantage in low temperature operability, there are also several disadvantages. The energy content of #1 diesel fuel is about 95 percent of #2 diesel fuel, resulting in reduced fuel economy and less horsepower. In addition, the kerosene used in #1 diesel fuel provides less lubrication for the fuel pump and fuel distributor, increasing the likelihood for wear on these critical components.

Cold Weather Performance Parameters
There are several areas of diesel fuel improvement touted by various cold flow additive manufacturers, including pour point, cloud point and cold filter plugging point (CFPP). Many claims can be misleading, so it is important to understand this terminology in order to determine which products truly provide superior performance.

It is important to distinguish between CFPP and pour point. Many competitive products make great claims regarding pour point, leading consumers to believe their products are superior when they actually have an inferior CFPP. Once fuel surpasses its cloud point, the wax crystals begin to clog the fuel filter. The CFPP temperature is a more important characteristic than pour point because the engine will not run if fuel cannot pass through the fuel filter.

AMSOIL Cold Flow Improver
AMSOIL Cold Flow Improver provides superior fuel flow to help prevent filter plugging in cold temperatures. It is formulated for a broad range of diesel fuels, including #1 diesel fuel, #2 diesel fuel, biodiesel and hard-to-treat ULSD fuels. AMSOIL Cold Flow Improver minimizes the need for blending standard #2 diesel fuel with lower quality #1 diesel fuel, helping maintain fuel economy and keep engines functioning normally. It is also excellent for use with home heating oil and kerosene heat systems.

AMSOIL Cold Flow Improver uses a jet-fuel-type deicer that disperses water to control ice formation throughout the fuel system. It inhibits wax crystal formation and can improve diesel pour point by as much as 58°F (32°C), allowing fuel to flow to the engine more easily and improving diesel engine reliability in cold temperatures. In addition, AMSOIL Cold Flow Improver lowers the CFPP by as much as 34°F (18°C) in ULSD.

Concentrated ACF vs. ACF Blended with Fuel
The new formulation of AMSOIL Cold Flow Improver will show no signs of solidifying in its concentrated state in the bottle until the temperature reaches -22°F (-30°C), a great improvement over the previous formulation, which solidified in the bottle at 0°F (-18°C). Cold Flow Improver will only freeze in its concentrated state, and AMSOIL recommends storing it at temperatures above 0°F (-18°C). If ACF is allowed to freeze in the bottle it can be thawed and used. When mixed with diesel fuel, ACF effectively improves diesel fuel cold temperature properties. It is recommended, however, that fuel be treated at temperatures above 32° F (0°C). ACF will not dissolve wax crystals which have already formed in the fuel.

Application Information
AMSOIL Cold Flow Improver is specifically formulated for improving fuel flow, helping maintain fuel integrity and preventing the clogging of filters and injectors. It is excellent for use with diesel fuels, heating oils and kerosene. Two oz. of AMSOIL Cold Flow Improver treats five gallons of fuel, or one 16 oz. bottle for 40 gallons. The clear bottles feature an easy-to-read graduation label for accurate dispensing, helping ensure proper treat ratios.

Ea Motorcycle Air Filters

AMSOIL INC. revolutionized the filtration industry with its introduction of AMSOIL Ea Air and Ea Oil Filters. For the first time exclusive nanofiber technology - the same technology used in the Abrams M1 tank and other heavy duty applications - was made available for automotive applications. Now, AMSOIL has made this outstanding new technology available for motorcycles.

Nanofiber Basics

Because the nanofibers in AMSOIL Ea Motorcycle Air Filter media are so small, there are more pores per square inch, allowing for higher dirt-holding capacity and lower pressure drop compared to traditional filter medias. Thinner media fibers produce more uniform pore size distribution, improving the filter’s overall ability to capture and retain particles.

Air Filtration Basics

An engine requires air for combustion, but the air drawn in through the induction system is loaded with contaminants. There are over 400 tons of suspended dirt and other contaminants in a cubic mile of air over a typical city. The concentration can be even higher in rural areas where there is frequent travel on unpaved roads. The dirt and contaminants drawn into an engine from the air are the leading causes of engine wear.

The function of the air filter is to trap and hold these wear causing contaminants without restricting air flow. As the filter traps more and more contaminants, air flow becomes restricted, smothering the engine and diminishing performance. The more wear causing contaminants a filtration media traps and holds, while still allowing optimum air flow, the better the filtration media.

The nanofiber technology used in AMSOIL Ea Filters surpasses all other technology in efficiency, capacity and service life. With AMSOIL Ea Air Filters, dust and submicron particles remain on the surface and are trapped in the nanofibers, preventing particles from lodging in the filter media depth. This produces higher efficiency and higher capacity, extending engine and filter life and reducing engine wear.

Ea Motorcycle Air Filters

The filtration media in the Ea Motorcycle Air Filter is pleated and has epoxy-coated wire on the face and back of the media for additional strength and stiffness. High quality plastisol potting compounds bond the pleat packs to the plastic or aluminum side plates. The S&S (aftermarket engine and carburetor manufacturer) style round filters are manufactured with high-quality plastisol that bonds the media to the wire backing and sealing area.

Superior Filtration

The synthetic nanofiber media featured in AMSOIL Ea Motorcycle Air Filters have sub-micron diameters and small inter-fiber spaces, resulting in more contaminants being captured on the surface of the media and lower restriction. Cellulose, wetted gauze and foam filters have larger spaces between the media that cause contaminants to load in the depth of the filter, resulting in airflow path plugging, higher restriction and lower capacity.

Cleanable for Long Service Life

AMSOIL Ea Motorcycle Air Filters are cleanable, providing unsurpassed protection and long service life. AMSOIL Ea Motorcycle Air Filters should be cleaned every year or according to operating conditions. Operation in extremely dusty or dirty environments may require more frequent cleaning. Ea Motorcycle Air Filters should be changed every four years.

Cleaning Instructions

AMSOIL Ea Motorcycle Air Filters are cleaned in the same manner as AMSOIL Ea Air Filters for cars and light trucks: with a vacuum or shop air. To clean with a vacuum, place the filter on a flat surface and carefully vacuum the filter media on the dirty side where the incoming airflow enters the filter. To clean with shop air, hold the filter with one hand and carefully blow the filter media at a 45-degree angle on the clean side of the filter using low-pressure (15 to 20 psi) shop air. Using too much air pressure will damage the filter media.

Superior Alternative

AMSOIL is producing an initial offering of eight Ea Motorcycle Air Filters manufactured for the most popular Harley Davidson models from the years 1988 to 2006, including motorcycles equipped with S&S carburetors and air cleaner housings.

Application information can be found in the online power sports lookup, in the G2135 Power Sports Application Guide or proper filters may be determined when placing orders.

Ea Motorcycle Oil Filters

AMSOIL INC. revolutionized the filtration industry with its introduction of AMSOIL Ea Air and Ea Oil Filters. For the first time exclusive nanofiber technology - the same technology used in the Abrams M1 tank and other heavy duty applications - was made available for automotive applications. Now, AMSOIL has made this outstanding new technology available for motorcycles.

Nanofiber Basics

Because the nanofibers in AMSOIL Ea Motorcycle Oil Filter media are so small, there are more pores per square inch, allowing for higher dirt-holding capacity and lower pressure drop compared to traditional filter medias. Thinner media fibers produce more uniform pore size distribution, improving the filter’s overall ability to capture and retain particles.

Oil Filtration Basics

Clean oil is vital to engine performance and durability. Oil must lubricate, cool and clean the engine as it circulates. In order to remain effective, it must be filtered as it cycles. The filter is connected to the engine sump, which contains the oil pump. Full-flow filters pass all the oil output from the pump through the filter.

The function of the oil filter is to remove the contaminants introduced into the lubricating oil and prevent them from reaching sensitive engine parts without restricting normal oil flow to the various points requiring lubrication. Internal sources of contamination include wear products from the rubbing surfaces of the engine, blow-by gases leaking past the rings of the pistons and degradation of the oil itself. A filter must perform well in the areas of efficiency, capacity, flow and life.

Ea Motorcycle Oil Filters

Ea Motorcycle Oil Filters feature a specially constructed silicone anti-drainback valve and a nitrile sealing gasket to go along with the full-synthetic Ea nanofiber media. The anti-drainback valve provides excellent protection during startup and remains flexible in all temperatures, and the nitrile sealing gasket resists chemical breakdown, providing excellent durability and ensuring long filter life. AMSOIL Ea Motorcycle Oil Filters are fluted for easy removal from the motorcycle and are available in a chrome-plated alternative to the normal black filters.

Superior Filtration

The unique construction and full-synthetic media of AMSOIL Ea Motorcycle Oil Filters allow them to provide unmatched performance in motorcycles and other power sports equipment. EaOM Filters last longer, stop smaller dirt particles and offer less restriction than other filters. Ea Motorcycle Oil Filters provide filtering efficiency of 98.7 percent at 15 microns, outperforming the best cellulose/synthetic blend media on the market. For maximum engine protection, AMSOIL recommends changing the EaOM every time you change oil.

Superior Alternative, Multiple Applications

AMSOIL Ea Motorcycle Oil Filters provide unsurpassed protection for motorcycles, ATVs, four-stroke personal watercraft, four-stroke snowmobiles and four-stroke outboards. AMSOIL is producing an initial offering of 16 Ea Motorcycle Oil Filters manufactured for the most popular power sports applications. Eight of the 16 filters are chrome plated.

Donaldson TopSpinTM Filters

Donaldson TopSpinTM pre-cleaner air filters extend primary air filter life, boost system efficiency and extend engine life in all off-road heavy-duty applications, such as farm equipment, backhoes, dozers and more.

Self-Ejecting Pre-Cleaner Air Filter Maximizes Air Intake Systems
How It Works

The Donaldson TopSpinTM draws in dirty air, forcing the pre-filtered clean air into the air inlet and automatically ejecting mixed debris out the side of the unit. It is self-ejecting and self-scavenging, so it never has to be emptied or cleaned.

Superior Filtration Performance

The Donaldson TopSpinTM separates up to 85 percent of all incoming contaminants and more than 99 percent of particles 20 microns and larger, reducing air filter usage and greatly extending filter life. The TopSpinTM continues to work at engine idle, cleaning the incoming air even when the equipment is not moving. Pre-filtering incoming air provides lower restriction, improving engine performance and reducing filter costs. The TopSpinTM has a range of 90 - 1500 cubic feet per minute (CFM).

TopSpinTM vs. Dust Bowl

The TopSpinTM provides many advantages over the traditional dust bowl-style pre-cleaners. Dust bowl technology collects contaminants and cannot pre-clean the air when it reaches capacity. Donaldson TopSpinTM pre-cleaners continuously eject contaminants, providing continuous and consistent pre-cleaning.

Dust bowls require frequent dumping and cleaning, and create ongoing expenses for customers forced to continually replace damaged bowls. The TopSpinTM installs quickly and easily with only one clamp to tighten. It requires no dumping and no cleaning.

Solid Construction

The Donaldson TopSpinTM features a robust design. Its dual mounted bearings are sealed for extended life, and they allow the scavenging blades to spin quietly, continually cleaning the TopSpinTM and ejecting contaminants.

Donaldson TopSpinTM Available Now

The Donaldson TopSpinTM is now available from AMSOIL. For dimensional specifications, consult the chart below or call AMSOIL Technical Services at (715) 392-7101.

WIX Aquachek® Filters

The first fully engineered filter of its kind, the WIX AquaChek® air drying filter eliminates the passthrough of free water from air compressors to tools and equipment. The revolutionary polymer filtration technology and spin-on installation of WIX AquaChek® filters set a new standard for compressed air moisture control.

Humidity

Humidity is in the air every day, and it increases when air is compressed. Once humidity, or water vapor, enters compressed air systems, it accumulates and condenses into free water, the number one cause of deterioration in air tools and equipment.

WIX AquaChek® Filters Remove Water

WIX AquaChek® air drying filters provide unsurpassed protection from water, rust and corrosion. The super-absorbent polymer fibers that make up the media are pleated and inserted into a spinon filter housing. As water molecules come in contact with the polymer, they react with it to form a molecular bond that never releases.

How the Polymer Works

The polymer opens up from its coiled position and encapsulates each molecule, changing the liquid to a semi-solid. This forms a molecular bond with the water that will not release, even if the media becomes saturated. The super-absorbent polymer media traps particulates down to 0.5 microns and reduces relative humidity in the air downstream to 50 percent or less. AquaChek® filters capture up to 28 times their weight in water, or 40 to 90 ounces.

Solid, Unique Construction

The polymer absorbent media is housed in a specially coated steel can. The AquaChek® filter’s base plate, spring and center tube are all zinc coated, and they also feature a nitrile rubber gasket and rubber element support, ensuring long filter life. At full saturation, AquaChek® filters create no more than a half-pound of pressure drop.

Installation Information

Installation of AquaChek® filters requires a filter mounting base, an isolation circuit for filter change-out and tools to cut and thread the air line at the location the filter mounting base is being installed. AquaChek® filters are available from AMSOIL as singles or in kits with all components necessary for installation, including the mounting base, filter, sealing tape, gauge, check valve and fittings. AquaChek® filters are compatible for use as a single point of moisture control or for system-wide filtration.

Changing the AquaChek®

Filter change-out varies according to compressed air systems and humidity levels, but intervals should not exceed six months. An AquaChek® filter left in service past the recommended service life will not release the captured water. However, water can collect in the filter and pass through when the polymer reaches saturation.

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
AMSOIL 10W-30 Formula 4-Stroke® Marine Synthetic Motor Oil (WCT) is a premium quality synthetic formulation engineered for the harsh operating conditions of marine environments. It withstands the intense mechanical action of continuous, high RPM operation to deliver superior viscosity protection. Formula 4-Stroke® Marine Synthetic Motor Oil is specially fortified with a heavy treatment of advanced additives that protects motors against wear, rust and deposits. It excels in both high horsepower applications and all-day trolling conditions.

4-Stroke Outboard Motor Warranty Certified
Formula 4-Stroke® Marine Synthetic Motor Oil is certified by the National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA) for use in four-stroke outboard motors. This high quality oil demonstrates outstanding performance, exceeding the NMMA “FC-W” (Four Cycle-Water) specification requirements. Formula 4-Stroke® Marine Synthetic Motor Oil fulfills the warranty requirements of four-stroke outboard motor manufacturers.

• NMMA Registration #FB-30011B 10W-30

Superior Protection Against Engine Wear
Marine engines operate under high loads and RPMs for extended periods of time, causing traditional automotive oils to break down and lose viscosity. To ensure good protection, the NMMA set minimum shear stability requirements for FC-W. AMSOIL Formula 4-Stroke® Marine Synthetic Motor Oil greatly exceeds the FC-W shear stability requirements, outperforming competitive oils to deliver a superior lubricating film. Formula 4-Stroke® Synthetic Oil also contains robust anti-wear additives that further reduce wear in metal-to-metal contact regions (see Four-Ball Wear Test graph).

While automobile engines normally operate at around 2,500 rpm, outboard motors can run twice as fast, requiring greater levels of wear protection and better bearing durability than automobiles. In addition, prolonged idling and low operating temperatures contribute to fuel dilution, further thinning the oil. To ensure adequate protection for their engines, marine engine manufacturers set minimum high temperature/high shear (HTHS) viscosity limits. AMSOIL Formula 4-Stroke® Marine Synthetic Motor Oils are shear stable and formulated with sophisticated oil additive chemistry, exceeding the HTHS requirements of both the API and NMMA FC-W (see graph).

Excellent Anti-Rust Performance
Marine engines are prone to rust, leading to uncontrolled wear and premature engine failure. However, good rust protection is not natural to engine oil. It comes only by design. Formula 4-Stroke® Marine Synthetic Motor Oil is fortified with a special anti-rust agent, even more than required to pass stringent NMMA FC-W anti-rust testing.

Applications
AMSOIL Formula 4-Stroke® Marine Synthetic 10W-30 Motor Oil (WCT) is recommended for gasoline fueled four-stroke outboard, inboard, inboard/outboard (I/O) and personal watercraft motors. AMSOIL WCT motor oil is recommended for the following applications whenever an SAE 5W-30, 10W-30 or straight SAE 30 oil is called for:
